54th Music Festival Dedicated to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Opens In Udmurtia
On April 16, 2011 the 54th music festival dedicated to the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky opened in his native city of Votkinsk with a concert given by People’s Artist of Russia Svetlana Bezrodnaya and her Russian State Academic Chamber Orchestra “Vivaldi Orchestra”.
The festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Mass Media and Information of the Udmurt Republic, and the Udmurt State Philharmonic.
The annual music festival dedicated to Tchaikovsky is a significant and widely popular event in the cultural life of the Udmurt Republic. Its biggest achievement is that it has introduced many people to classical music, an intellectual treasure. Oustanding soloists and orchestras representing Russia, Udmurtia, and foreign countries, have participated in the festival.
This year citizens of Udmurtia will enjoy a gala concert by famous performers of the Mariinsky Theater, Saint-Petersburg, the Bolshoy Theater, Moscow, and the National Opera and Ballet Theater of Ukraine, Kyiv; the State Academic Capella of Saint-Petersburg conducted by People’s Artist of Russia, laureate of Russian State Prizes state prizes Vladislav Chernushenko. Vladislav Murtazin, winner of all-Russian competitions, People’s Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, will present his “Great Organs of the World” program.
2011 being a Russia-Italy year, Udmurtia will host Italian guests of the Tchaikovsky Festival. Italian-born musician and composer Marcella Puppini will conduct the Georgy Garanyan Big Band. The festival program includes a concert by the Neapolis Ensemble performing barocco music. Soloists Rossana Potenza, Francesco Cingarello and Mauro Augustini will sing in Giacomo Puccini’s “Tosca”, with the Udmurt Republic State Opera and Ballet Theater’s orchestra conducted by Maestro Leonardo Quadrini. Besides, Italian soloists will sing opera arias in a joint concert with the Udmurt Republic State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nikolay Rogotnev.
Various professional ensembles of the Udmurt Republic will give concerts in Votkinsk and other cities and villages: the State Symphony Orchestra of the Udmurt Republic, the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Udmurt Republic; Udmurt State Philharmonic collectives: the Golden Melody orchestra, the Avis Cantu academic choir, the Muzygranty group.
The solemn closing of the festival accompanied by music festivities will take place on May 7 at the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Museum Estate in Votkinsk.
