On June 7-12 Izhevsk hosted the Annual Conference of the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums (EARAZA) that unites zoo directors from all over the world.

The conference was attended by over a hundred guests from 13 countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Czechia, Estonia, Izrael, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The participants heard reports on research programs and discussed new approaches to the development of zoos and aquariums.

The President of the Udmurt Republic Alexander Volkov met with the participants of the conference on June 10. He started his speech with assuring the guests that hosting this significant forum was a great honor for Udmurtia. Then he informed them that the opening of a new section—The Monkey Land— in the Izhevsk Zoo marked the completion of another stage in its construction and expansion, and that the next step would be the improvement of the Kirov Park adjacent to the zoo.

The EARAZA president Vladimir Spitsin, Director General of the Moscow Zoo and a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, thanked local authorities for their efforts in organizing the conference.

Later in the day Alexander Volkov, republican leaders and conference participants took part in the opening ceremony of the Monkey Land in the State Zoo of the Udmurt Republic.
